Today’s post was prompted by a recent visit from Monty’s assistant from when he was 3 to 9 years old. She was asking about how to improve fine motor skills in one of her class. It does look like practice makes perfect, but there is actually some science behind this and it might help explain in part why young people with autism are very slow to acquire skills.   I should point out that there are multiple contributing factors, not least any kind of excitatory-inhibitory imbalance, but today’s post is about myelin.
